METROPOLITAN COUNCIL NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARINGS, PUBLIC MEETINGS Proposal to increase regional public transit fares For the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area The Metropolitan Council is receiving public comment on a potential proposal to raise public transit fares on all regional transit service in the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area. Regional transit services affected include those operated by the following: Metro Transit, Metro Mobility, Transit Link, and suburban transit providers Maple Grove Transit, Minnesota Valley Transit Authority, Plymouth MetroLink, and SouthWest Transit. The proposal includes the following options: • Raise the base cash fare by 25 cents for local bus, METRO/light rail, A Line, express bus or Northstar Commuter Rail service. • Raise the base cash fare by 50 cents for local bus, METRO/light rail, A Line, express bus or Northstar Commuter Rail service. • Raise the base fare by 50 cents for Metro Mobility service. • Raise the base fare by 75 cents for Metro Mobility service. • Change fares for Transit Link service to match fares for Metro Mobility service. Several public hearings and public meetings are planned to provide an opportunity for the public to learn more about the proposals and provide comment. Public Hearings Public hearings are opportunities for people to offer formal public testimony – delivered orally or in writing - on the proposed increase to regional transit fares. There will also be information about the proposed fare increase available, and an opportunity for attendees to ask questions about the proposal and its impact prior to the public hearing and after the close of the hearing. People will be able to offer public comment, though there will be no formal opportunity to offer testimony at the public meetings.
