USDA-Farm Service Agency Notice of Availability Minnesota Water Quality Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program Draft Environmental Assessment U. S. Department of Agriculture, Farm Service Agency (FSA) announces they have prepared a draft Environmental Assessment to evaluate the Minnesota Water Quality Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP), proposed to be located in Becker, Big Stone, Blue Earth, Brown, Carver, Chippewa, Clay, Cottonwood, Dakota, Dodge, Douglas, Faribault, Fillmore, Freeborn, Goodhue, Grant, Hennepin, Houston, Jackson, Kandiyohi, Lac qui Parle, Le Sueur, Lincoln, Lyon, Martin, McLeod, Meeker, Mower, Murray, Nicollet, Nobles, Olmsted, Ottertail, Pipestone, Pope, Redwood, Renville, Rice, Rock, Scott, Sibley, Stearns, Steele, Stevens, Swift, Todd, Traverse, Wabasha, Waseca, Watonwan, Wilkin, Winona, Wright, and Yellow Medicine Counties. The primary objective of the Minnesota Water Quality CREP is, to the extent possible, to address water quality concerns that affect the use of those water resources related to nutrients and sediment (i.e., improve water quality). The secondary objective is to enhance or maintain wildlife habitat. The Minnesota Water Quality CREP proposes to meet these objectives by establishing filter strips along eligible water courses; restoring and protecting wetlands, and establishing permanent native grasses within eligible wellhead protection areas. FSA is accepting comments on the potential effects of the proposed project on protected resources and the human environment through January 15, 2017.
