The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board will hold a public hearing on two proposed amendments to the Nokomis-Hiawatha Master Plan on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 6:30 pm in the Board Room at the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) headquarters, 2117 West River Road, Minneapolis. Individuals who wish to speak at the hearing may call 612-230-6400 to sign up in advance or simply appear in person at the hearing. One amendment would create a designated urban agriculture area on the east side of Lake Hiawatha. Another amendment would finalize a design concept for the Nokomis Athletic Fields located on the northwest side of Lake Nokomis. Visit the Nokomis-Hiawatha Master Plan project page for more information. The Nokomis-Hiawatha Master Plan was approved by MPRB Commissioners on March 4, 2015. The Master Plan is a written and graphic document that sets a 25-year vision for Lake Hiawatha, Lake Nokomis, and the surrounding parkland. Both the proposed Urban Agriculture areas and Nokomis Athletic Field design concept were not included in the Master Plan, so amendments are required to move forward with those projects.
